Cake Daddy’s is Wilton Manors’ dessert stop: a gay-couple-owned bakery turning out over-the-top custom cakes, cupcakes, and sweets that lean fully — proudly — into camp. Subtlety is available elsewhere on the Drive; here, the frosting has opinions.

The custom cakes are the headline act, and birthdays, anniversaries, and “just because it’s Tuesday” celebrations across the Drive lean on them. But the walk-in case earns its keep too: cupcakes and treats built for eating one-handed while working your way up the strip’s shops. Sugar-fix-while-shopping is a legitimate Wilton Manors activity, and this is its headquarters.

A quirk worth knowing before you set your heart on a cupcake: the schedule. Cake Daddy’s is closed Mondays, and Tuesday through Thursday it runs a split day — open 7 to 11am for the early crowd, closed for the midday bake, then back from 2 to 9pm. Fridays it runs straight 7am to 9pm, Saturdays 10 to 9, Sundays 10 to 7. (The bakers have to bake sometime.)

You’ll find it at 2047 Wilton Dr, at the south gateway of the strip near Out of the Closet — dangerous proximity, since thrift-store bargains and a box of cupcakes make an unbeatable, budget-friendly afternoon. For a custom order, reach them well ahead of your date; the good stuff takes time.
